This project is a mobile app for iOS and Android versions used for reading manga, webtoon and graphic novels around the world, from international authors, as well as following the most famous Japanese magazines.

The brief of the project was creating a native app for Android and iOS of my choice, using iOS Human Interface guidelines and Android’s Material Design.

I conducted a competitive analysis methodology and a feature analysis.
Conducting this methodology let me understand the competitor’s strengths and weaknesses, to know how they are guiding their product development.

-
Icon lets the user know which episode is reading right now- barely visible.
-
Dark mode. This feature that lets the user personalize the app can make them feel more comfortable with the app.
-
Splider to inform the user the progress of the reading when it is reading in horizonal. In settings the user can personalize their way of reading, horizonatl-vertical.
-
You can see the synopsis directly, a prologue with images. This is very useful to users who want to discover new stories as they don’t need to open a new screen to know more about the story.
-
When you open the app for the first time, asks the user to select the genre category of their preferences. There is no way to skip this.

In this project I had to keep in mind the guidelines of iOS and Android for each step of my design process as the goal of this process was creating a native app for each versions.

My role in the creation of this app was creating the idea of the app, working in the user flow, low, mid and high fidelity wireframes, the illustrations, the prototype and finally the user testing.
UX/UI

Before sketching the first ideas for my screens I need to know the steps and actions my user will take when navigating through the app to complete some tasks, that is why I created the user flow of the user.

When the users open the app for the first time, some screens will appear to guide the user to a more personalised experience or to remember them the guidelines to read manga.

I faced some challenges when I was developing this project, but in the end, I accomplished to overcame them by a reorganisation of the time.

Creating a unique idea from what was already existing was something that took me some considerable time.

The organization of time in this project was challenging as I wanted to add illustrations and I knew it would take me time also to create them.

My first idea of the project was creating an app about reading manga, however as it progressed the first steps, I came up that I needed to do something different from the already existing apps for reading manga, so I came up with the idea to create a tool not only for reading manga but webtoon and also graphic novels from around the world. I wanted to create a project where I could put my creativity and show my drawing skills.

I am happy with the result of how the app looks and feels with all the work and effort I put on it. On of the proudest details of the app is the name, that comes from two names: Manga and Otaku.
Manga is the name of Japanese comics, and Otaku is a Japanese name who is addressed to people who is obsessed with manga, anime and computers.
